Over the last several decades, there have been a wide range of Light Jets produced for private and Business Aviation. At the smaller end of the spectrum, some of the models (such as the Cessna Citation CJ1+) offer seating for five passengers. More typically, jets in this category seat between 6-7 passengers.

Aircraft classified as Light Jets tend to have a maximum take-off weight ranging between 10,001 and 20,000 pounds. An attractive trait about the Light Jet for the smaller flight departments is that some of the models are certified for single-pilot operations.

More recent production models lack nothing in the sophistication of avionics available aboard larger jets, making them very safe to fly.

Buyers seeking a brand-new Light Jet direct from the OEM can expect to pay between $5.0m and approximately $11.0m, depending on the performance characteristics and size they require.

Light Jets are ideal for owners seeking value and flexibility from their aircraft. Owners will often use Light Jets to fly colleagues, friends and family on short inter-continental trips of 1,200 nautical miles, or less.

Jets within this category are excellent business tools, giving their passengers flexibility to make multiple short trips in a single day, and can access shorter runways than larger business jets, opening up access more destinations.

Popular Light Jet models produced today are manufactured by Cessna (Textron Aviation), Embraer, and Pilatus Aircraft. Over the years, other renowned OEMs have also produced Light Jets, including Bombardier Learjet, Beechcraft, and Hawker. Many good examples of models built by all of these manufacturers can be found on the pre-owned aircraft market today.
